Bel Canto Reimagined: The Voice and the Guitar in Dialogue

Our project Bel Canto Reimagined explores the encounter between the voice and the classical guitar through the vocal repertoire of the early Romantic period. Starting from the study of arias by composers such as Rossini, Bellini, and Donizetti, we seek to rediscover this language from an intimate and historically informed perspective, highlighting the sound and expressivity of the 19th-century guitar as an instrument capable of engaging in a natural and poetic dialogue with the voice.

Inspired by figures like Luigi Legnani and Mauro Giuliani performers who lived in close contact with the operatic world. we create original arrangements for voice and guitar, exploring the timbral, rhetorical, and expressive possibilities that emerge when this music is brought from grand opera houses into a chamber setting.

As part of the project, we will also present several of Rossini’s arias arranged for voice and guitar within one of Giuliani’s Rossiniane, performed by Laetitia (voice) and Nacho (guitar). This will allow us to explore the connection between Giuliani’s virtuosic reimagining of Rossini’s themes and the original vocal material itself.

Bel Canto Reimagined is, above all, a quest to keep tradition alive through a contemporary, sensitive, and personal lens.
